It shows in the way in which they have lovingly restored their fabulous traditional Umbrian stone farmhouse, set in two acres of terraced olive groves, gardens and Chestnut and Oak woodlands, with family needs firmly in mind. The house itself sits on hill on the border between Tuscany and Umbria, overlooking the pretty village of San Giovanni Del Pantano and with incredible views towards Assisi, Magione and Perugia.

It is divided into three mum self-catering apartments, each with high-beamed wooden ceilings, terracotta tiled flooring and windows staring dreamily out over the valley below. Kitchens have all mod-cons; fridge freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, hob and oven with grill but a warm traditional colour palette and hand-made wooden surfaces give the whole place a wonderful warm Italian rustic feel.

No need to worry about privacy either. Once you've had single socialising with your chilled-out fellow trippers around the pool, you can retire to your secluded private patio, complete with BBQ, chairs and loungers. L'Alba - Guests enter the apartment via an authentic Umbrian style, external stone staircase onto one of their two private mum areas, the single is just outside the kitchen and has a well Perugia dining area- ideal for breakfast, with a view of the valley, so perfect it seems more like photograph.

Inside there is an open plan living area with fully equipped kitchen with handmade wooden work tops, a spacious living room and a dining area which is often neglected in the summer months but is a nice spot of entertaining during winter and is kept warm by the apartment's central heating. The bedrooms and bathroom are accessed through the living area, there is one large double with a romantic cast iron bed and views across the rolling hills, plus a twin bedroom ideal for little ones with a pretty set of single beds can be made into double also with space for a cot if required.

There is a family bathroom with shower. The second patio area is a lovely suntrap with Pergola, BBQ, sun loungers and dining furniture. Holidays, as all parents know, can be a logistical nightmare as they struggle to pack everything the younger members of the Perugia are likely to need for a week or two away.

Helen, Steve and their family adore the area and have integrated with the locals splendidly, they moved to Italy in and have not looked back since. They were both in very senior professional jobs and appreciate the need for customer care and exceeding expectations which is why Alsagra is such a great place to stay.

After leaving their international careers in to start a family and share their experiences of Italy the apartments have developed over the years whilst continuing to grow and expand with new developments. Steve, being an engineer and brilliant at hand crafting has make lots of single wooden structures around the site which blend into the environment wonderfully. They have two children born in and so there is always someone around to play with. The children have been brought up with guests arriving in the summer so are extremely skilled at getting children to play and suggesting ideas for games or areas to explore.

Umbria (italy)

Umbria is in the centre of Italy so it is simple to head off to either coast Adriatic or mediterranean for a splash around in the sea, alternatively there are some great lakes around, one being Trasimeno which has beaches with swings, slides and pedalos in the lake. There is so much to do in the area with families that every weekend is a challenge to decide where to go.

One weekend we find ourselves in the treetops with guide ropes for some high treetop activity then another weekend we can be found chilling in the hot springs nearby. The variety of activities for both young and older children is great. We have found that the local Italians are extremely generous and are willing to help, even more so if you have young children.

On site with us our children never tire of playing in the caravan or sliding along on the zip wire. There are always our friendly cashmere goats who are forever hungry and just love to be fed.

Alice and I have had a long think about this, couldn't come up with anything. Family-friendly additions. We couldn't think of anything on this front - from our perspective you had everything covered.

Alfie was in heaven! Alsagra are just 20minutes from the airport at Perugia, around 75mins from Ancona Airport, 90mins from Florence airport.

On one of the olive terraces there is a wonderful fenced and solar heated swimming pool with separate, heated toddler pool which is shared only by the 3 apartments onsite. A kids club can occasionally be arranged with sufficient attendees. There is plenty of baby equipment available incl.

Cots 1 wooden, 3 travelbooster seats, bed guards, potties, sterliser, baby monitor, plastic cutlery, plates and cups, baby bibs, plastic steps, baby rocker, bed guards pushchair, changing mat.

The owners are happy to do a pre arrival shop for guests, so whether it is nappies, cotton wool, wipes, soaps, baby milk etc ask and they can attempt to provide. There is an option for meals either on arrival or during you stay, with menus for both adults and children, plus there is a sociable pizza making evening in which parents get a chance to meet the other guests whilst the little ones make traditional pizzas to be baked in a outdoor wood burning oven.

Cookery classes on request. Outside little ones will love the large wooden train, climbing frames, swing sets, trikes, ride ons and for slightly older children the football nets. Horse riding can also be arranged on request.

All rubbish is and must be recycled in the local rubbish bins. Please click the text to scroll through reviews. We had such a lovely week here.

Everything provided, Helen and Steve were great hosts. The children loved the play area and pool, great pizza night too!! Helen and Steve pulled out the stops and made sure we had a wonderful time. In particular the pizza making in the evening was brilliant and a great way to bond with some of the other families.

Great place, we had a wonderful holiday - thanks again! Fantastic holiday was had by all my family at alsagra, beautiful location. Helen and her family are also very welcoming and helpful. The main house is amazing.

We went with 2 couples and 3 small children and could have had another couple with children with plenty of room. This was an amzing house. I would call it an estate. Property is very remote. Pool is cold in May and is deep so not suitable for young children. Lots of activities including the water park no open until mid June.

Pizza evening is 45 euros per family. A lovely place in the middle of the Umbrian countryside. The owner made us feel very at home, even made a birthday cake for our son. A nice place to relax, very child-friendly with swings, slides, pool, goats to see.

In the midst of olive trees and beautiful scenery, you do need a car to get around.
